Giving Our Roses Time to Recover: Why We Are Pausing Potted Rose Sales Until September 2026

If there is one thing growing roses teaches you, it is patience.

A rose garden works in seasons. There is a time for planting, a time for flowering, a time for pruning, and sometimes, a time to simply allow the plants to rest and recover.

After an exceptionally warm summer, we have made the decision to pause our potted rose sales until September 2026. This allows our roses the time they need to recover naturally, put on healthy new growth and prepare for the seasons ahead.

It is a decision we have not taken lightly, but one we believe is the right thing for both our roses and the gardeners who welcome them into their own gardens.

Looking after the roses comes first

As a small rose nursery, we grow our plants slowly and carefully here in the Usk Valley.

We do not buy in large quantities of roses ready for resale. The plants we offer are grown and nurtured by us, through the changing seasons and the challenges that each year brings.

That means we know our roses well. We see how they respond to the weather, how they grow throughout the year and when they need a little extra care.

Following such a warm and dry season, our priority is making sure our plants have the opportunity to rebuild their strength before they travel to new homes.

By allowing them this extra time, we can ensure that when our roses leave us, they are healthy, vigorous plants with the best possible chance of thriving in your garden.

Why not continue selling?

It can be tempting to keep plants moving, especially during a busy growing season. But we believe quality and care are more important than simply having roses available all year round.

A rose is not just a product to be packed into a box. It is a living plant that has been cared for from the moment it began growing in our nursery.

We would much rather wait and send out a rose that is truly ready for its next chapter than rush a plant before it has had the chance to fully recover.

The importance of healthy roots

When choosing a rose for your garden, what you cannot always see is just as important as what you can.

Strong roots, healthy growth and a well-established plant are the foundations of a beautiful rose that will reward you for years to come.

Giving our roses extra time now helps them focus their energy below the soil as well as above it — building the strength they need for future growth and flowering.
